**Introduction **
Guntur Kaaram is the latest Telugu movie starring Mahesh Babu, Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and others in the lead roles. The movie is written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, who is known for his witty dialogues and family entertainers. The movie was released on 12 January 2024, coinciding with Sankranti festival. But does the movie live up to the expectations of the fans and the audience? Let’s find out.
**Story Summary **
The movie revolves around Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu), who is the king of the underworld of Guntur city. He is a ruthless and powerful don, who has a soft corner for his mother Vasundhara (Ramya Krishna), who is a minister in the ruling party. Ramana’s life takes a turn when he falls in love with Amulya (Sreeleela), a journalist working for a news channel that exposes the illegal activities in the city. Amulya is also the daughter of Venkata Swamy (Prakash Raj), who is the leader of the opposition party and the arch-rival of Vasundhara. How Ramana balances his love and loyalty, and how he faces the challenges from his enemies forms the crux of the story.
**The Cast and Crew**
Mahesh Babu delivers a stellar performance as Venkata Ramana. He showcases his charisma, style, and action skills in the role of a don. He also brings out the emotional side of his character in the scenes with his mother and his lover. Sreeleela makes a decent debut as Amulya. She looks beautiful and shares a good chemistry with Mahesh. Meenakshi Chaudhary plays Raji, a childhood friend of Ramana, who has a crush on him. She does a fine job in her role and adds some glamour to the screen. Ramya Krishna is superb as Vasundhara, the mother of Ramana. She portrays the role of a strong and ambitious woman, who loves her son unconditionally. Prakash Raj is excellent as Venkata Swamy, the cunning and ruthless politician, who wants to destroy Ramana and Vasundhara. He is the perfect antagonist for Mahesh. The supporting cast includes Jayaram, Jagapathi Babu, Rajiv Kumar Aneja, Brahmanandam, Ali, Haji, Sanjay Krishna, and others, who do their parts well.
The movie is directed by Trivikram Srinivas, who is one of the most successful directors in Telugu cinema. However, he fails to impress with Guntur Kaaram, as the movie suffers from a weak script, outdated sequences, and a lack of humor. The movie is a typical masala entertainer, with nothing new or fresh to offer. The movie relies heavily on Mahesh Babu’s star power and his dialogues, which are the only saving grace. The movie also has a lot of unnecessary songs and fights, which hamper the pace and the flow of the story. The movie is a disappointment for the fans of Trivikram, who expect more from him.
The music of the movie is composed by Thaman S, who delivers a mediocre soundtrack. The songs are catchy and peppy, but they do not suit the mood or the theme of the movie. The background score is loud and repetitive, and does not elevate the scenes. The cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa and P. S. Vinod is good, and captures the locales of Guntur and Hyderabad well. The editing by Naveen Nooli is average, and could have been tighter. The production values by Haarika & Hassine Creations are grand, and reflect the budget of the movie
**The Decision**
A spicy yet stale masala film, Guntur Kaaram doesn't provide anything novel or thrilling. Mahesh Babu is the sole protagonist of the film, carrying it all by himself. For those who are expecting more from Trivikram Srinivas, the movie is a letdown. The film is only intended for Mahesh Babu aficionados who like his speech and on-screen persona. Those who are looking for a well-written screenplay, a compelling story, and a logical direction should not watch this film.Guntur Kaaram movie rating 1.4 out of 3 and runtime 2hr 42 min.
